- Care & Maintenance
Use a soft cloth or sponge with a detergent designed for gelcoat surfaces, then rinse with clean water. Avoid products that are abrasive, caustic (high pH or alkaline) or contain ammonia. Caustic cleaners can cause discolouration, loss of gloss, and eventually cracking and reduced UV resistance with repeated use.
It is essential to wash them often and polish and wax them periodically, as doing so will ensure they remain like new for many years. Frequent washing is a vital step in keeping your gelcoat finish in premium condition.
Yes, but use a wide spray nozzle and keep a safe distance. Avoid spraying directly on panel joins or decals.
Remove dead bugs, bird droppings, sap, and tar as quickly as possible to avoid staining. If using a bug and tar remover, test a small inconspicuous area to be sure it is safe for use on gelcoat surfaces, and follow the directions on the package.
Yes. Applying a high-quality wax helps restore gloss and protects against UV damage. Depending upon the frequency of exposure to the elements and colour, polishing and waxing the gelcoat surfaces must be completed at a minimum of every six months or three months or less for darker colours.
These issues are caused by exposure to UV radiation and pollutants. All gelcoat surfaces can eventually become prone to dulling or fading with sufficient exposure to sunlight, heat, and moist air, which combine to oxidise the gelcoat surface. Regular cleaning and waxing help prevent surface fading and staining.
